regarding registries

Matt: If my relatives in Poland buy me gifts, they will have no connection to something I write on a website somewhere on the internet.

Potentials

My current preoccupations:

Wedding:

BHLDN

One of these gowns will be mine. Actually, I know which one and want to shout it from the rooftops, but I'll hold back. Having one detail to imagine has given me a burst of energy. (Besides the groom.)

House:

Government subsidized flowers for our garden

Our neighborhood (soon), Shaw

West Elm pop up in DC

Changes

Big news in the life of our EZDC bloggers: We're buying a house, throwing a wedding (for us!) and basically changing everything that we possibly could. Our "free" time is now spent researching home renovation and wedding venues and accordingly, this blog will now document, in addition to gastronomic delights and SpaWorld, our homebuilding and wedding building processes. I'm very excited to have a place to record it all.

cafe days

I love Mid City Caffe. I love the way they hold your french press coffee until it's properly brewed. I love their prosciutto and gruyere croissants. I love the tall stools by the front window and the way that hot air blows on your legs in the winter. I love the lone wolf friendly atmosphere, what with the too-close-together tables for one and the quietness. I love that the music is almost always beautiful.

Whenever I go there, I manage to produce something/make progress. I always end up staying for at least 3 hours and am more often than not lucky enough to find myself in a flow state. is it because my laptop is visible to strangers who are potentially silently judging me (although im sure no one cares)? maybe. maybe thats not such bad motivation. the power of blogs and facebook to draw me away from tasks when i'm alone is astounding. i hate it, but love blogs and the dopamine rush of finding a new thumbs-up on the book is sometimes just too powerful.

anyway, digression. mid city is kind of a perfect little neighborhood cafe for readers, writers, coders, etc. some DC cafes get so crowded, play the music so loudly, create so many opportunities for literally bumping into strangers that it just kind of feels like a daytime club. not our peaceful oasis.

so, hurrah to mid city. see you there

we begin

hello!

thanks for starting us off, matt. i'm totally ready to start documenting our dc explorations and observations. we'll be covering everything from food consumption to spa consumption, from notable urban hiking routes to transcendent (or painful) music experiences. we'll talk about our regular haunts and our new discoveries.

who are shilpi and matt? u street/columbia heights residents for [5, 3] years who work in [journalism, energy efficiency policy]. we emigrated as children [2, 10] from [india, poland] and then hopped around the US a bit, and thus have quite a practiced "observer" mode. that said, we became very attached to [chapel hill, cambridge] for about 7 formative years. we can love places, and we feel that there are things to love here in DC. between the two of us, we love good coffee, farmers markets, hiking, biking, bookstore cafes and cafe bookstores, meandering around the city, dancing, yoga, saunas and more. join us!
