Whenever I go there, I manage to produce something/make progress. I always end up staying for at least 3 hours and am more often than not lucky enough to find myself in a flow state. is it because my laptop is visible to strangers who are potentially silently judging me (although im sure no one cares)? maybe. maybe thats not such bad motivation. the power of blogs and facebook to draw me away from tasks when i'm alone is astounding. i hate it, but love blogs and the dopamine rush of finding a new thumbs-up on the book is sometimes just too powerful.
anyway, digression. mid city is kind of a perfect little neighborhood cafe for readers, writers, coders, etc. some DC cafes get so crowded, play the music so loudly, create so many opportunities for literally bumping into strangers that it just kind of feels like a daytime club. not our peaceful oasis.
so, hurrah to mid city. see you there
